Pepperwood Preserve- Fig Jam Workshop

October 14, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

“Sonoma County’s bounty of summer fruit is evident even here at Pepperwood. The fig trees found on old homestead sites still bear fruit, and their offering is our delight! Join us to learn to make delicious fig jam preserves – a taste of Pepperwood for you to enjoy long after summer’s warm days wane. We will practice the sustainable art of canning, from pulp to finish, with our harvest of Mission Figs. No experience necessary – come to learn, or share your expertise. Leave with a jar of your very own “Pepperwood Preserves!” –– All supplies will be provided. Please bring lunch to enjoy during a break the workshop.

Note: Do you have access to your own figs to harvest? You can harvest and store them in advance, to then process at home after practicing with us during our workshop. We recommend you pick your figs as they ripen, wash them and cut in half or quarters, and then store them in the freezer (ziplock freezer bags work well). Thaw your frozen fruit when you are ready to make your own jam at home, following our workshop.

This workshop will be hosted and facilitated by long-time Friend of Pepperwood, Judith Fenley, and Pepperwood’s Education Program Coordinator, Holland Gistelli. They look forward to sharing the fruits of Pepperwood and the art of canning with you.”
