Sonoma Ecology Center- Soundscape Listening Walk

September 6 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

“Did you know that both California and Sonoma Valley are biodiversity hotspots? As many as a quarter of California’s species exist in this compact area, a place that comprises only a tenth of 1% of California’s entire land area!

Join Jack Hines (host of the Ear to the Wild podcast on KRCB/NPR) as he sets up his high-tech audio equipment enabling participants to listen in greater detail to the summer evening soundscape as part of of California Biodiversity Day. This will be a quiet, meditative hike, where we will spend most of our time listening. We will start with a short hike (<1 mile) to a quieter location where we hope to hear owls and other summertime sounds such as the Common Poorwill. After setting up the audio equipment, we will listen quietly for ~45 minutes. Feel free to bring a portable chair in a bag. ”
